The Armor of God Basics

Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank you so much for equipping us—the body of Christ. You’ve given us your armor to withstand the enemy on every front. Not only that, but you’ve given us the Sword of the Spirit, your word, to advance and take ground. I pray that as the fight wages on, you train us to become masterful warriors in your army. We’re here to serve you in life, through death, and into life again.

The armor of God basics.
Devotion
We’re in a spiritual war. This spiritual warfare is not waged like the ways of the world with physical violence and killing. We wrestle with the rulers, authorities, cosmic powers, and spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Because this is a spiritual war, we need spiritual armor to protect ourselves and advance.

Praise God that he has equipped us with the armor of God.

The armor of God is made up of six items:

  1. Belt of truth
  2. Breastplate of righteousness
  3. Shoes of the Gospel
  4. Shield of faith
  5. Helmet of salvation
  6. Sword of the Spirit

You may be wondering, um, how do I put this stuff on?

The incredible thing is that when you believe in Jesus, and name him as Lord, you put on the armor of God—but you can always become a more effective soldier.

Now you may be wondering, so, how do I become a more effective soldier?

The more you develop your relationship with Jesus, the stronger your armor becomes. The more you understand the truth, the more fitting your belt becomes. The more you understand the righteousness of Jesus that was bestowed upon you when you came to faith, the stronger your breastplate becomes. The better you understand the Gospel, the more efficient your shoes become. The more you understand faith, salvation, and the Sword of the Spirit, the stronger your shield, helmet, and sword become.

You develop your relationship with Jesus by spending time in prayer, reading the Bible, memorizing scripture, allowing God to lead your life, abstaining from sin, and following Christ.

As we strengthen our armor—as our relationship with Jesus becomes stronger—as our knowledge and understanding of everything increases, we become a more formidable force against the devil and his kingdom of darkness. As we become a more formidable force against the devil and his kingdom of darkness, the quicker they’ll flee!
Closing Prayer
Jesus, thank you so much for your victory! As the spiritual battle continues to wage on, we can stand strong in part knowing that the battle has already been won. We fight from a place of victory and know that God's plan will ultimately come to fruition. I pray for your strength over my brothers and sisters and proudly give you all the glory. In Jesus name, amen.
